The Menlo boys’ basketball team took its West Bay Athletic League opener down to the wire, staging an energetic rally in the final minutes of a 64-60 loss to The King’s Academy on Tuesday. Menlo seemed to have an answer for TKA’s quick start and eight -point lead when Robby Enright got a steal and Lucas Vogel scored on a putback. Then Sam Reznik sank a three and Menlo trailed 12-9 after the first quarter.
TKA led by 10 entering the fourth quarter and Menlo started chipping away - thanks to a pair of Enright rebounds and Vogel with three unanswered baskets, including two threes. Vogel’s two free throws put Menlo within six at 60-54 with 1:13 left. Vogel and Reznik each added a free throw but Tylek Barnett scored twice in under a minute to give TKA a 64-57 edge then Vogel sank a three in the waning seconds, but Menlo ran out of time.
