Record number of track & field athletes bound for CCS
Nineteen Knights athletes in 11 events are bound for the CCS Trials.
Menlo School track and field athletes soared In the WBAL Championships, taking home CCS qualifications, league titles, and PRs Friday night.
Menlo junior Landon Pretre is the WBAL 3200 champion, and ran a leg in the sllver medal-winning 4x800.The top two finishers at league head to the Central Coast Section Championships on Saturday, May 11, starting at 10:00 am for field events and 11:00 am for running events at Gilroy High School. Nineteen Knights athletes in 11 events are bound for the CCS Trials.
Knights senior Summer Young was a triple qualifier after she won the league event championship in the high jump with a lone jump of 5 feet, 0 inches. Young is the co-leader with the top mark in CCS after she jumped 5-8 earlier this season at St. Francis.
Young took silver in long jump (tied PR 16-9.25) and ran a leg on the WBAL champion 4x100 with junior Scarlett Bundy, sophomore Sophie Housser and junior Angelica Chou in 50.80
The Knights’ Veronica Taira, a junior, is the WBAL 800 champion, coming in first with a time of 2:22.63
Theo Sanders, league high jump champion, and Claude Kingsley-Williams, is headed to CCS in triple jump and 4x100
On the boys’ side, Landon Pretre, a junior who has broken the league mile and 1500m races this year, sailed to a victory in the 3200, coming in 9:11.30. Pretre holds the seventh-best time in the state, and set the all-time CCS record last month in 8:48.11. Freshman Henry Hauser was second in 9:52.31 and heads to CCS.
Senior Theo Sanders took first in the WBAL high jump, clearing 5-8, while sophomore Jacob Elkes also cleared 5-8, and is bound for CCS for Menlo, which took five of the eight high jump spots.
Veronica Taira won gold in the WBAL 800 metersSenior Claude Kingsley-Williams won silver in the triple jump in 39-11.0, and Jared Saal, a junior, took second in the 800 in 1:59.39.
The 4x100 team of Kingsley-Williams, junior Jamie Forese, sophomore Jude Yuen and junior Ryan Jabal took bronze at WBAL, and after a scratch, and advance to the CCS Championships.
