Letter from President
Dear Menlo Alumni Community,
I am pleased to introduce myself as the new Alumni Association President and am truly excited for my new role. Although the bar has been set at a high level by my predecessor Mark Douglass ’77, in many ways we have tremendous momentum that I hope to carry forward and perhaps add some new perspective.
As a member of the class of ’82, I attended Menlo at a time of dramatic and historic change. The all-boy college preparatory school I entered as a freshman had become (with a few awkward periods in between) a well balanced co-educational school by the time I was a senior. What a bold yet positive transition I was able to experience during that time! In spite of this metamorphosis during my four years, Menlo managed to stay remarkably consistent at its core with great teaching, a bright and spirited student body of unique individuals, and a nurturing environment that encourages not only academic but extra-curricular achievement as well.
Having returned to the Menlo community in the recent past, I again see, from a physical standpoint, a very different looking school. Not only is the middle school an updated and more modern looking campus, but the brand new high school building is simply state-of-the-art. Having had the privilege to meet many of the students and teachers though, I again am amazed at how Menlo has stayed consistent with its heritage. I continue to be impressed with the high quality of teachers, the exceptionally talented and gifted student-body and wonderful environment Menlo provides its students to grow intellectually, athletically and artistically.
I invite and encourage all of my fellow alumni to return to campus throughout the coming year to reconnect with Menlo as I have so enjoyed doing. I believe you will not only be proud of our new campus, but even more-so that Menlo’s values have remained true to the Menlo of yesteryear. I imagine those of you who were able to make it to this year's Homecoming festivities got a sense of this.
There are many great opportunities approaching to visit with fellow alumni and your alma mater. To view upcoming Alumni events, please go to the Alumni Events section of the Menlo website.
Please feel free to personally contact me at gmckee@renault-handley.comand I look forward to seeing many of you back on campus in the upcoming year.
Kindest Regards,
Geordie M. McKee '82
Alumni Association President
