Menlo sails in second half to beat NDSJ 41-20 and TKA 38-14

The Menlo flash football team picked up a pair of victories at a jamboree, defeating Notre Dame-San Jose 41-20 and host The King’s Academy 38-14 on Wednesday.
In both cases, the Knights (2-1) broke open close games in the second half.
Freshman Ava Allen posted six touchdowns - two rushing, three passing, and one receiving in the two games. Sophomore Krista Arreola scored on three rushing touchdowns and senior Paige Miller had a passing and receiving touchdown, Scarlett Bundy and Bianca Putanec scored on interceptions.
Against TKA, Menlo got touchdowns from Allen and sophomore Maren Mulloy but trailed 14-12 at halftime. But Menlo would come back with three unanswered scores. On the first drive of the second half, Arreola scored from deep in Menlo’s own territory and Menlo took an 18-14 lead. Senior Paige Miller found Allen for another TD and freshman Laila Young scored the extra point for a 25-14 lead. Miller would get the next TD on a pass from Allen. Menlo junior Scarlett Bundy capitalized on defense, getting a pick-six before junior Mary Mahe would pass to Mulloy for two and the final 38-14 score.
Against Notre Dame-San Jose, sophomore Bianca Putanec would go end to end for a pick-6. Freshman Chloe Lien passed to Arreola for an 8-7 lead. Allen would connect with Putanec for the next TD then picked up the extra point on a pass to freshman Maya Sharma and a 15-14 lead. Allen added a passing TD to sophomore Marin Yamada and the extra point pass to senior Summer Young. Allen ran in the next TD herself for a 28-14 lead. With another long run, Arreola rumbled into the end zone and Allen would add an extra point for a 35-20 lead with 6 minutes left. Arreola added her third rushing TD of the night for the 41-20 final.
