Menlo Goes Global

Global Expo offers the Menlo community a chance to embark on a journey around the world, right here on Valparaiso.

Every two years, Menlo’s Global Expo transforms the Loop into a worldwide feast for the senses. This year’s event, held on Sunday, April 28, expects to draw over 700 members of the Menlo School community to reconnect, explore, learn, and celebrate the School’s vibrant cultural tapestry.

The event will feature over 40 booths from many of the countries and cultures represented at Menlo. This year’s booths will be hosted not only by parent volunteers but also by faculty and student affinity groups. The undertaking is a labor of love, made possible by the hard work of more than 100 volunteers.

In addition to getting their passports stamped by answering a question from each country, guests will enjoy cultural performances, arts, food, fashion, travel experiences, customs, games, and traditions. From Kendo Kata and Korean Fan Dancing to Ballet Folklorico and Bollywood Dance, talent and creative expression will abound.

“Inviting each other into our unique heritages, experiences, and perspectives, practicing curiosity about customs and traditions other than our own, and deepening our understanding of and empathy for each other’s stories—these are the kinds of activities that weave us together as a society. We are a better school when we can come together to learn from each other and create an environment in which every student and employee feels a sense of belonging and is able to bring their full self to campus each day,” says Head of School Than Healy.

Adds Paula Jinbo, who co-chairs the 2024 expo alongside Shilpa Gupta, “Expo brings the community together—kids, parents, grandparents, faculty—to celebrate the diverse culture and heritage of this community.”
