Our meetings consist of reading current events articles, discussing international affairs, and planning for upcoming conferences and speakers. We have participated in conferences at Stanford, Berkeley, and U.C.L.A, usually attending 2-3 per year. Trivia Club (Quiz Club)

Quiz club members represent Menlo School in various quiz competitions around the Bay Area, including the NAQT, BAAL, and the exciting televised Quiz Kids! We test our knowledge of all aspects of our world, from sports to Laws of Thermodynamics.

Architecture Club

Meeting Time/Place: Tuesday 12:15 in Whitaker Lab
Architecture Independent Club provides students of all creative backgrounds with the ability to further their interest in the field of architecture, and to allow them to manifest these interests in their own individual projects. The club is open to all students who range from having a basic understanding of architecture and a tentative interest in pursuing it in the future, to those focused on creating portfolios for colleges and designing more complex structures. We will start off the year by going over the different types of architectural styles, and later move on to designing and creating a homes with AutoCAD and Google SketchUp, while learning how to freehand draw as well. We will also go over the details that must be met by an architecture portfolio when applying to college. Time will be allotted as needed for students who need to complete certain tasks in their college application processes. By the end of the year, all students should be able to use the laser cutter for creating 3D models of their individually designed buildings.
Combo Club

Combo Club is a venue for musicians to get together and play music in a small group setting. All levels are welcome. Come learn a new tune, practice your improvisation or just hang out and listen.
Disability Awareness Club

The Hacky Sack Club is a service organization dedicated to aiding individuals with physical disabilities. Our mission is to use our inexhaustible and boundless reserves of empathy to motivate us to, in a greater sense, create the world around us a better place. The Hacky-Sack Club is committed to fostering the improvement of the lives of those who have physical disabilities and promoting compassion in the global community. Our purpose is to increase awareness of the needs of physically disabled individuals in high schools and the local community of the peninsula, to improve the conditions of the lives of individuals with physical disabilities by minimizing the hardships they face in everyday life, and to fund programs or organizations that meet the needs of the physically disabled and helps them to overcome their obstacles. This club is perfect for anyone looking to contribute to a cause greater than themselves. The Hacky Sack Club strives to make service a greater part of the lives of Menlo School students because we believe that it is integral to the development of empathy and character.
Investment Club

Regardless of whether you plan to redefine microeconomic theory or you want to learn about how people are able to make calculated decision to increase their money, investment club is the place to be.Investment Club meets on alternating tuesdays at lunch. In our mission pledge, each of our members vows to better their own education through the works of Investopedia, discussion, and guest speakers. The only requirement of becoming a member is to be willing to devote yourself to a very important society. Although there is little required work to qualify, entering this club often leads to intense competition with fellow investors. This is a warning: once you invest, there's no going back.
Junior Classical League

JCL, the biggest club at Menlo, brings the classics to life. One of the largest chapters in California, our organization frequently holds conventions, embarks on community service projects, and takes trips to museums and concerts. There is truly something for everyone in JCL. The 8 board members meet every week and plan events. About 60 Menlo Latin students attend the state and local conventions every year, where they compete in academics, arts, and athletics, in addition to meeting students from other schools. We also hold social events such as progressive suppers, paintballing, and Great America days. There is a plethora of ways to get involved.
Knight Vision

Knight Vision is a community service club that strives to not only perform hands on service but also fundraise for global and local causes. Knight Vision's mission is to create strong relationships within our community and to reach out to societies not as fortunate as us. We strive to perform at least two hands on activities per month, in addition to various fundraisers each quarter, leading up to our main fundraising event in the spring, the beneficiary of which is chosen by the club. Knight Vision incorporates various activities like Community Cooks, tutoring at Taft school, and UNICEF candy grams throughout the year, constantly working with Student Council and the student body to help community service thrive within the Menlo community.
Literary Magazine
Advisor: Ms. Weltze
Meeting Time/Place: Tuesday 12:20 in A155
Poetry, short stories, and other literary works can be sent to menlo_litmag@yahoo.com. Meetings consist of reading the poetry that has been sent in that week, briefly discussing the poem, and voting in a democratic fashion on which poems will be put in the Penny Press, a weekly publication handed out at assembly. In the Spring, a meeting is held after school and all of the poetry submitted that semester is reread and discussed for publication in the literary magazine. We prefer non-anonymous works, so please include your name or a pseudonym in place of your name at the bottom of your piece. When we read in meetings, names and pseudonyms are not included to encourage objective voting. You do not have to attend the meetings if you just want to submit work, and likewise you are welcome at the meetings even if you have not written anything.
Mock Trial

Meeting Time/Place: Tuesday (junior varsity) and Thursday (varsity) 6:00-8:00 pm
Mock Trial is a team competition within San Mateo County. Students will increase proficiency in interpersonal skills and speaking abilities, while gaining a greater understanding of the link between our constitution, our courts and our legal system. Menlo Mock Trial went to the State Championship in the 11-’12 season.
The Neighborhood (Menlo's Mathematics and Computer Science Club)

The Neighborhood welcomes students (and faculty members!) who enjoy studying thought-provoking new ideas in science and mathematics, solving challenging puzzles, competing in competitions at a variety of levels, and savoring the company of other mathematics and computer science fans. In addition to biweekly meetings, members compete each year in approximately twenty local, regional, and national competitions, publish the Menlo Mathematics Magazine, and share a variety of technical and cultural resources.

Bard Club

The Bard Magazine is an arts-and-lifestyle-focused online magazine that we hope to publish once every quarter (for a total of four issues a year). We hope to feature a number of different exemplary artists in the Menlo community, discuss art and lifestyle events, and provide a conversation forum regarding issues relating to arts and lifestyle. The club will meet once a week to brainstorm and assign stories and photos, and edit and layout the full magazine, which will be published on our website. In addition to the full magazine, the website will host a blog where writers will post stories regularly, as well as web-galleries to host photos and artwork by artists in the community.
Chess Club

The Menlo Chess Club is a group of students who wish to improve their game play, show off their intellect to their peers, explore the elegance of chess, or just have some fun! We meet every Thursday on the quad in a relaxed fashion, where students may come and go as they please. Variants of chess, such as loser’s chess, bughouse, and atomic chess, are also explored. Occasionally there will be some club activities, such as simultaneous exhibitions, bughouse tournaments, chess puzzle contests and regular chess tournaments. Lunches are provided. This club should not be confused with the Menlo Chess Team, which is a notch more competitive. Future Business Leaders of America

FBLA is a national business organization devoted to educating high school students in business.
In this club, we will study fascinating business-related concepts and have the chance to develop our own products by creating business plans. We will compete against other schools in topics ranging from sports management to business law to entrepreneurship. In addition to competitive events, we will listen to speakers and tour companies.

The Persian Club will be a chance for students of any background to learn more about the culture, food, history and politics of Iran, in order to gain a better understanding of Persian culture and identity. We will meet weekly to plan social events, field trips, fundraisers, movies and guest speakers throughout the year.
Photo Club
Advisor: Mr. Zivkov
Meeting Time/Place: Thursday 12:30 Creative Arts Center
Photo Club is open to digital and film photographers of all levels. The club atmosphere changes every year, depending on the number and experience of the members, but generally it is very low-key. No experience with a camera is necessary. Members should have a camera, but if not, there are several point-and-shoot models available for loan. No particular model is required. Unlike the photography class, the Photo Club is not highly technical and does not emphasize the mechanics of the camera or editing software, but rather the simplicity of its use. Our goals are to remove the intimidation of the camera, learn to have fun with it, and to offer a venue in which to talk about photographs, especially your own.

Wilderness Club

Meeting Time/Place: Thursday 12:30 in the College Counseling Office
The Wilderness Club will lead groups of students into the outdoors for one-day and overnight trips. Activities will include hiking, backpacking, camping, rafting, kayaking, paddle boats, surfing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking, and rock climbing. Destinations will be both local and long-distance. No experience necessary!

Environmental Awareness Club

Our mission is to promote environmental awareness and respect for the natural world that surrounds us. We strive to work towards a state of self-sustainability within Menlo School and the greater community. As a club, we plan to work toward these goals through awareness events at our school and overall pursue the change necessary to become an environmentally friendly campus and community.
French Club

Our club goes to exhibits at the Moma and Legion of Honor, concerts, fashion shows, cirque du soleil, and French restaurants. We gather for dinner and watch French movies. We also put on bake sales and we organize a big garage sale to raise money for the construction of a preschool in Gongora Ethiopia.

PFF (Passion for Fashion) is a club for everyone who has a passion for just that: clothes! We discuss current trends, up and coming designers, and other topics such as shoes, accessories, personal style, and fashion shows and exhibits. This is NOT a shopping club! We also come together to watch favorite fashion-related films and tv shows, such as Project Runway, The Rachel Zoe Project, and the documentaries The September Issue and Valentino.
