Several times a year, there are promotional tests in which students can demonstrate their ability to earn a higher belt rank (white, yellow, green, purple, brown, and first-degree black). Also, the club usually takes several trips to UC Berkeley each year to participate in master clinics. Participation in the club is free and open to all students—beginners as well as experts. In the Spring, a meeting is held after school and all of the poetry submitted that semester is reread and discussed for publication in the literary magazine. We prefer non-anonymous works, so please include your name or a pseudonym in place of your name at the bottom of your piece. When we read in meetings, names and pseudonyms are not included to encourage objective voting. You do not have to attend the meetings if you just want to submit work, and likewise you are welcome at the meetings even if you have not written anything.
