GUIDING YOUR COLLEGE PROCESS
FOUR TIPS
for Scheduling Campus Visits
Every year in the spring, a parade of high school students and their families, ood college campuses all over the country. They come with the intention of talking to admissions o cers, students, and other members of
the campus community who can o er a sense of what makes their particular campus special. If you and your family are amongst this group, you are in good company. Here are a few tips to ensure that you have a meaningful visit experience that will allow you to learn about the school and something about yourself.
1 Make a Plan! Menlo School will be closed February 19-23, and April 9-13. Both are excellent time periods to visit college campuses and begin the process of exploring options. If you are just starting out your college search process, February is a great time to visit college campuses that are in the San Francisco Bay Area and the April break can allow you to travel outside of California if you so choose.
2 Do Your Homework! Make sure to start your college search process online. Visit the school’s website and get a sense of what the school
has to o er. When you arrive on campus, you will be able to ask more informed questions about the educational and social experiences of the institution.
3 Sign Up! Students should register for the information session and the campus tour. Don’t feel the need to reinvent the wheel and schedule your own customized visit necessarily. College Admissions o ces
are well-oiled machines when it comes to hosting students and their parents. They have synthesized the most important part of the visit experience into the most e cient time period for you to learn about their campus. It is a great way to begin to learn about their campus community.
4 Talk to your college counselor! We are excited to work with you as you go through the college search process. We hope to help make the process as enjoyable, stress-free, and rewarding as possible. We are happy to share more tips with you about how to successfully go about planning your winter, spring, or summer college tour.

*I would strongly encourage you not to begin your college search at Stanford University. While it is a fantastic educational opportunity, it is not always healthy or helpful to anchor a student’s idea about the college experience in Stanford. There will be time to visit Stanford, but we would recommend that students visit the summer after junior year or early in senior year.
