institutions for years to come is important work. The days are long and very full, and though we are traveling, it hardly feels like a vacation.
Recruitment for ASU, states: “ASU uses y-ins and nds them valuable because it allows us to share our full university with counselors
and essentially educate
the educators. ASU has
multiple campuses and so
many majors, programs,
and activities that di erent
students can have very
di erent experiences
within our university based on what they choose. Unfortunately, many students who would bene t from our smaller campuses or certain academic programs or scholarships may never even engage with us to learn about those options because they think of us one large university and one experience that wouldn’t
be a good t for them. If we’re able
to share our full university with counselors, then you all are able to share those opportunities with any of your students and parents that may be a good t for those opportunities, even if they weren’t aware we could be a good option.”
Personally, every time I am on a y-in I can think of a handful of students I’m working with that would be an excellent t at the institution. Just this week, our Director Matt Mettille was describing the ideal student
for NYU Abu Dhabi and, although they are looking for someone very speci c, one or two students came to mind. Already this school year, the Menlo College Counseling Team has visited Dartmouth College, Arizona State University, Lake Forest College, NYU Abu Dhabi, and University of Chicago on y ins, and have plans
to visit The George Washington University, Rhodes College, Skidmore College, Colgate University, Hamilton
However, in the end, it’s worth it: if we come away learning something new, informing the folks on the college side about some of our unique programs
at Menlo, and have a student or two in mind for
any particular college, we call that a huge success.
