GUIDING YOUR COLLEGE PROCESS

Starting March 8, Menlo students will request their classes for the next academic school year. The
course catalog can be found on
the Menlo School website and we encourage students to start checking out the amazing offerings as soon as possible.
Leading up to course sign-up day, college counseling will be hosting drop-in hours for students to ask questions about which classes
to take next year as it pertains to college. Though we are not experts on the difference between, say,
the content of two senior English electives (though your English teachers are!), we can provide some general guidance about which

classes to select based on Menlo’s course offerings.
Some common question we receive from students during this time are:
➤ Which math class should I take? Should I double up on math?
➤ Should I continue with a world language my senior year?
➤ How many AP/honors classes should I take?
➤ Have I met the PE/Arts requirement for graduation?
As you can imagine, the answers to these questions vary widely from student to student. We consider

ENGLISH:
4 years (must take both semesters senior year)
FINE ARTS:
Freshman Rotation + full year course
WORLD LANGUAGE:
3rd level and
2 years in Upper School
HISTORY:
3 years
MATHEMATICS:
3 years (including Algebra 2)
SCIENCE:
3 years
(physics, chemistry, biology)
SENIOR PROJECT: Pass MAY TERM: Pass
PHYSICAL EDUCATION:
4 units (Freshman Rotation + 3)
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:
10 credits yearly
