GUIDING YOUR COLLEGE PROCESS
 By Matt Mettille
Ivividly remember last year as the Class of 2018 was preparing for winter break and spring break
date information to help make the best decisions. At the end of the day, we will do everything that is humanly possible to help Menlo students be successful.
This year, our 144 graduates will attend 66 di erent colleges and universities spread throughout 28 di erent states across the U.S. Twenty-eight students (19.5%) will attend public universities and
country, a slight increase from
last year. Seventeen students
will participate in athletics, eight students will attend talent-based arts programs, and six students will take a gap year. The most popular destinations this year are SMU (7), USC (7), Dartmouth (6), NYU (6), Colorado (5), Northwestern (5), Stanford (5), and Tulane (5). You’ll see the entire matriculation list for
college visits, many were dropping by to share thoughts on the colleges they hoped to attend. Many of the students were nervous because
the process seemed daunting and there was a lot that was unknown.
I distinctly remember two di erent students telling me at various points that they would be the
 rst Menlo students
that didn’t get into any
colleges. I’m happy to
report that didn’t happen.
I’m tremendously proud
of the graduates of Menlo School and all the di erent paths they plan to take once they graduate.
It continues to be clear to me and everyone in our o ce that our students do exceptionally well in
the college admissions process.
We work tirelessly to help students try to nd good matches for their academic, social, and personal needs, and make sure that they have balanced colleges lists. We continue to emphasize to students nding the right t despite the intense pressure from our community and the area to follow prestige. We provide students and families with the most up-to-
the class in this edition of KnightTime News.
As graduation approaches, I could not be more proud of the Class of 2018. Not
because of the college matriculation list, but because of the people they have become and the impact they have had on the Menlo community. Congratulations, come back and visit often! You did it!
CONGRATULATIONS,
Class of 2018!

113 students (79%) plan to leave the state of California for college. Fourteen new destinations were added to our pro le this year, and we will send 13% of our graduates to liberal arts colleges around the
