Some colleges and universities will interview students once they’ve either started an application or submitted it, which can be as early as September. Summer is a great time to begin interview prep as
this gives students ample time to re ect on their achievements and goals for university and the ways
in which they want to articulate these thoughts to the admission representatives. Menlo college counselors are eager to work with your student to ensure they are putting their very best foot forward.
Prep Supplemental Material
Summer is a great time to research the many ways that colleges and universities accept supplemental materials, such as art, music, or maker portfolios, and supplemental letters of recommendation. Each school will have a di erent method for submission of these materials. For example, some universities use the program Zeemee, while others use Slideroom for supplemental materials submission. Some performing arts programs require a live audition, while others will only accept submissions via Slideroom. The deadline for submission of supplemental materials will also vary from university to university. As you can see, there isn’t a standard way
to submit supplemental materials, and if this step is left until the fall, it can make for a very frenzied college application process. Therefore, students would serve themselves well to research this process now.
While the college application process can be stressful and daunting, it can also be a very exciting time in your child’s life: they are venturing out into the world as young adults— young adults who have lived out
