Defense keys boys’ basketball win over TKA

Woodson grabs 19 boards, Brown scores 12
Menlo's Riley Woodson pulled down 19 rebounds, made five blocks and scored 10 points in a 45-35 win over TKA.

Menlo School boys’ basketball allowed just 12 second-half points in a 45-35 West Bay Athletic League victory over The King’s Academy in Sunnyvale on Tuesday.

Menlo (3-0) holds on to the early-season league lead after beating TKA (2-1), and Sacred Heart Prep (2-1) fell to Woodside Priory (2-1).

Menlo junior Riley Woodson dominated the boards, grabbing 19 rebounds, and contributed five blocks and 10 points.

Thomas Brown, also a junior, scored 12 points and had three assists to pace Menlo. Brown also stopped TKA’s top three-point shooter Kolson Frame (29 three-pointers in 13 games) , shutting him down for the final three periods.

Junior JH Tevis added seven points, and seniors Jack Gold and Evan King each added a pair of three-pointers.

“We had to step it up on the defensive end,” Menlo coach Keith Larsen said. “We held a good TKA team to 18 points in the last three quarters - it was a great team effort.”
