Menlo Celebrates Diversity Week - February 25-March 1

A Week of Speakers, Activities, and Special Events in Celebration of our Diverse Community

February 25-March 1, Menlo’s Diversity Club, in conjunction with the Global Expo and the BSU, his hosting a week-long celebration of Menlo’s diverse community.

Cultural Celebration Kickoff
Monday, Feb. 25

  • 12:15-12: 25 pm, Student Center Patio
    A few cultural performances offer a preview of the Global Expo on March 3.

Spiritual Inclusion
Tuesday, Feb, 26

  • 12:00-12:30 pm, Library MMR
    Menlo welcomes guest speaker Rana Abdelhamid, an internationally acclaimed community organizer and social entrepreneur. Her work as founder of WISE has garnered coverage in AJ+ with 1M views, a L’oreal award that got thousands of votes, an online self-defense kit with 1M hits, and features in Teen Vogue, BBC, and HuffPost.  

Resiliency: Our Differences Make Us Stronger
Wednesday, Feb. 27

  • 12:00-12:30 pm, Library MMR
    Menlo senior Walter Li will lead a student/teacher panel discussing personal stories with physical and or emotional/mental challenges and how they have gained resiliency as a result.

Spectrum of Identity
Thursday, Feb. 28

    The Spectrum Club will host alumni Issa Coultas, who was the president of Spectrum Club (then the GSA) thru a Google Chat.

Diversity of Thought
Friday, March 1

  • 12:00-12:30 pm, Library MMR
    History teacher Ryan Dean will host a panel of conservatively-minded students who will discuss their experiences in the Menlo community

The Global Expo
Sunday, March 3

  • 1:00-3:00 pm, Athletic Center
    The Menlo Global Expo is afternoon event for the Menlo community to celebrate the diverse cultures at Menlo and to showcase cultural performances, arts, food, and travel experiences and learning.
