WBAL girls’ lacrosse earn chance to defend title

Knights defense shuts down Bears in final minutes

Two-time defending champion Menlo School girls’ lacrosse is headed back to the WBAL Championship after holding off Menlo-Atherton 11-10 in Thursday’s semifinals at home.
The Knights (12-6) are set to play neighbor Sacred Heart Prep in the final Saturday at 1:00 pm Sequoia High School.
On Thursday, junior Page Wolfenden posted a team-high five assists and had a hat trick and five draw controls. Senior Sophie Scola also netted three goals. Charlotte Swisher, also a senior, dropped in a pair of goals and tallied a team-best seven draw controls. Menlo goalie Alyssa Sahami picked up eight saves.
Against the Bears, Menlo rallied from a 2-0 deficit on three unanswered goals to take the lead with 5:44 left in the first half. The Knights took a 5-4 halftime lead. Coming out of the half, the teams traded goals, then senior Sophie Scola delivered the equalizer for an 8-8 tie with 10:07 left in the game.
Bella Scola, also a senior, delivered back-to-back goals, then Swisher added a goal, giving the Knights an 11-9 edge with 6:33 left. The Knights defense held the line/.
