CCS: Baseball opens with commanding win

Knights unleash 12 hits against Thomas More
Menlo managers Tink Reynoso, left, and Greg Hart congratulate Kevin King, who doubled, and Justin Nam, far right.

Somehow sneaking in seven innings amid rain, the Menlo baseball team came away with a commanding 8-0 victory over Thomas More in a CCS Div, III opener at Wilcox High on Saturday.
The Knights opened with a six-run first to set the tone. Starter Julien Hernandez furthered his own outing, collecting three of the Knights 12 hits. Nine batters picked up a hit for the Knights (17-9), who will play Monte Vista Christian in the semifinals at 3:00 pm, Thursday, May 23,  at Washington Park in Santa Clara. If the Knights win, they will meet the Pacific Grove-The King’s Academy winner at 1:00 pm Saturday at San Jose Municipal.
Hernandez, a junior, improved to 7-3, allowing just two hits, striking out five in five innings. Bennett Norman, a senior, came on in relief. Knights sophomore JC Ng contributed a pair of hits and six Knights drove in runs.
