He went a combined 9-0 on the weekend. Advancing to the singles final, Volgin dominated Nevada’s Daniel Dudockin, posting a 6-1, 6-3 victory to win his second championship of the day.  “Seeing Andrei, the freshman, take the doubles crown … and then come back and take the singles was pretty awesome,” Aggies coach Eric Steidlmayer said. “I mean it’s pretty hard to do — he won nine matches in three days to do it, so it’s really cool for him.”

Robert Miranda (Menlo School ’18) led the Yale men’s cross country team to a fifth-place finish in the highly competitive Panorama Farms Invitational in Charlottesville, Va., on Friday. The Bulldogs’ average time of 24.51.02 over the hilly 8K course represents a huge step in the right direction as they build toward the Pre-Nationals Invitational and the Ivy League Heptagonal Championship. Miranda, a sophomore, ran in 24.26.5 to finish in a team-best 15th place.

“I’m proud of how we all raced. We really gave ourselves the chance to compete,”  Miranda told Yale Athletics. “(Teammate Nick Dahl) and I worked well together upfront, and we had a lot of our guys packed up behind us – especially some of the first-years competing in their first 8-kilometer race, which showed a lot of heart. If we can keep building on our effort today I think we could have a really good team come Heps.”
