Middle School Commemorates Veteran’s Day

To commemorate Veteran’s Day, the Middle School welcomed 98-year-old World War II combat veteran Bob Williams to an early-November assembly.

Mr. Williams, who served in the Philippines, Okinawa, and other Pacific islands after entering the Naval Academy at age 18, shared his life story, answered students’ questions, and greeted nearly every Middle School student with a smile and a handshake.

When asked by one student about the most important lesson he’s learned, he encouraged students to get in the habit of “expressing gratitude and giving thanks to others. Make it a habit to tell others how much you truly appreciate them and all they do for you.”

Mr. Williams regularly meets with students from area high schools to share his message of appreciation and love of country. When asked by a member of the Menlo community how our we can support veterans, he said if you know a veteran or meet someone who has served, ask them about their stories and make sure to thank them for all they have done for our country.

The Almanac was on hand for Mr. Williams’s talk. Read the story and see the photos here.
