Girls’ soccer secures CCS berth

Knights take second WBAL 
Siena Gavin broke a 0-0 tie with her goal in the second half against Mercy-Burlingame on Tuesday.

2.14.2020 – Menlo girls’ soccer played Notre Dame-Belmont to a 2-2 tie in a West Bay Athletic League finale on Senior Day Friday.

Carolina Espinosa scored twice in a tie with Notre Dame-Belmont The Knights wrap up the regular season with a 6-1-3 league mark for second place, and are 9-4-7 overall. Menlo, which easily made one of the WBAL’s four automatic -qualifying spots will find out its postseason matchup on Thursday, Feb. 20.

Against the league champion Tigers, the Knights got two goals from sophomore Carolina Espinosa. Notre Dame-Belmont scored six minutes into the match, then after halftime, Espinosa scored unassisted. The Tigers would counter before Espinosa would strike again on an assist from senior Sidney Peña.

The Knights celebrated its senior quintet of Katie Aufricht, Amanda Foster, Bella Guel, Sidney Peña, and Carly Retterer pre game. 

Menlo 2, Mercy-Burlingame 0

2.11.2020 – The Menlo girls’ soccer team shut out visiting Mercy-Burlingame 2-0 in West Bay Athletic League play Tuesday.
The Knights ( 9-4-6 overall, 6-1-2) have secured a CCS berth and second place in the WBAL with one game left in the regular season.
Against Mercy, Menlo broke a halftime tie when junior Siena Gavin converted off a corner kick. Dartmouth-bound Carly Retterer would add an insurance goal with seven minutes left for the Knights.
