Girls’ basketball NorCals quarterfinal cancelled

Knights close chapter on remarkable season
Menlo girls' basketball 2020

The rescheduled California Interscholastic Federation-NorCal Div. I girls’ basketball  team’s quarterfinal game against Bishop O’Dowd has been cancelled.
Menlo School did not come to this decision lightly, and know that this comes as a disappointment to the teams and fans. Menlo senior administrators met with the team this afternoon to inform the team. The Menlo girls have played inspired basketball this season and have achieved some epic milestones, including a thrilling upset win last Tuesday night on the road against a talented Oak Ridge High School team.
The CIF indicated that this is not considered a forfeit.  Bishop O’ Dowd will advance to the NorCal semifinal Saturday, and the Knights wish O’Dowd the best.
Menlo Director of Athletics Earl Koberlein has worked closely with Bishop O’Dowd and California Interscholastic Federation officials to fight for the team’s ability to play by pushing the game back or finding a way to alter the schedule. Given that Menlo doesn’t have more clarity on whether our athletes were exposed in time to come to a fact-based conclusion, and out of extreme caution for our students and fans, as well as those at Bishop O’Dowd, Menlo believed it is the right decision to cancel the game.
In numerous conversations with Bishop O’Dowd and with the CIF, Head of School Than Healy and Koberlein have both been struck by how supportive, understanding and flexible everyone has been.
Menlo is so deeply proud of how the Knights basketball players have played, what they have achieved and also how they represent Menlo at its very best.
