Catching Up With Menlo Alumni: August

News and notes from Menlo alumni far and wide.

Chris Heid ’87 says he’s moved from San Francisco to Incline Village, NV.

From Scott Barkley ’88: “In May, we moved to Menlo Park and walking distance to Menlo School, where our daughter is a rising sophomore. I’ve enjoyed running into fellow alums like Kim Yates ’88 teaching her daughter how to drive on the local streets (YIKES), and taking socially distanced walks with Jim Hoppe ’88 in the Woodside hills.”

Jolie Olcott ’88 shares that she’s still teaching at Duke University and would love seeing anyone who comes out her way.

In July 2020, Evanne Barcenas ’00 and her band, Effie Zilch, released “Gospel of Gold,” the first single off their second album, Old Deals. Evanne, who is also part of Menlo’s performing arts faculty, says the song “speaks to the structures of inequality in our society” and so proceeds from each stream of the song will be given to the NAACP and WhyHunger’s Rapid Response Fund, which empowers Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities to build equitable food economies. You can listen to the band on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.
