You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown!

Middle School Drama brings the beloved Peanuts gang to life in its latest production, which is coming to a livestream screen near you on February 13-14, at 2:00 pm.

The Middle School drama program proudly presents You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown! on Saturday and Sunday, February 13-14, at 2:00 pm. The show will be streamed live here from the Middle School Quad, where they’ve staged iconic props like Snoopy’s doghouse, Schroeder’s piano, and Lucy’s booth.

Middle School Drama director Rob Lewis, who is in his first year at Menlo, says viewers can expect a “theatrical ride filled with laughter and heart!” He continues, “The cast and crew have put together such a power-packed display of colorful characters, high-spirited songs, and dances, comedic bits, and punchlines…they really bring the Peanuts gang to life before your eyes, and they not only keep you entertained but also remind you about the sweet things in life.”

This show was selected in part because it is very flexible, which was essential given the ever-changing circumstances faced staging a performance piece during a pandemic. Middle School students began rehearsing the songs and dances from home via Zoom, but as Menlo has returned to campus for hybrid learning, students have recently been able to rehearse—while socially distancing and wearing masks—outdoors on campus.

“Safety has been our number one priority, and we’ve been able to accomplish this all through teamwork and communication,” Rob says. “We knew it would be a completely different way to produce a show and that we’d run into obstacles but we’ve been able to foster a safe, working atmosphere that is also fun to be a part of.”

The students have adapted effortlessly in every way, including learning dances over Zoom. Rob says, “They’ve jumped in with vim and vigor. They make jokes and laugh with each other, and they stay true to our collective purpose of being here together to put on a great show. They knew there’d be challenges, and they’ve risen to meet every single one head-on.”

“I strongly believe in the message of this musical and hope the entire Menlo community enjoys it,” Rob shares in closing. “It’s about friendship, kindness, inclusivity, generosity, and the power of community. It’s the story of Charlie Brown, who wakes up every day, confronting challenges, and who despite the setbacks, holds on to hope and stays true in his heart. All of the characters discover that yes, there might be challenges, but we have each other and together we’ll succeed.”
