Football soars past TKA 49-12

Seven more passing TDs; Menlo shuts down King’s Academy

9.3.2021 – The Menlo Knights football team picked up where they left off last week, and posted a 49-12 victory over host The King’s Academy in a non-league match-up Friday night.
The Knights, who recorded a 63-6 win over Sequoia last week, put together another dazzling display of offense and again showcased a stifling defense.
“We’re feeling pretty excited about where we are. We have to work on reducing penalties, and playing full four quarters” said junior receiver and safety Robby Enright. “We’re happy about putting up points on offense and stopping on defense, but there’s always room to improve.”
Menlo senior Sergio Beltran, who had a school-record seven touchdown passes in the first half last week, was similarly as prolific. He found three receivers for touchdowns in the first quarter alone. He completed 18 of 21 passes for 264 yards with one interception and five touchdowns. He also ran for 78 yards, giving him over 800 total yards in just over four quarters of play in two games.
Robby Enright pulled in three of those touchdown passes, including one from fellow junior Jake Bianchi who completed 7 of 9 passes for 70 yards and two passing touchdowns. Senior receiver Carter Jung had two touchdown receptions, and finished with 90 yards in five catches.
“The offensive line and the blocking was amazing. Sergio just put the ball in the perfect spot for all of the receivers, and they made it easy for me.”
Menlo blocked both of King’s PAT attempts while junior Ross Muchnick is now 16 for 16 in PAT attempts in two games while consistently placing kickoffs near the goal line.

TKA scored their second touchdown after a turnover in the second quarter, but Menlo countered six plays later, when Beltran found Enright for 28-12 advantage.  TKA was driving and got to the Menlo 38 before junior Ty Richardson stopped it short with a pick.  The defense was again formidable, forcing two fumbles, recovered by juniors Cort Halsey and Eron Chen. Menlo held TKA to less than 200 total yards.
“They came out strong we knew their line was going to try to knock us back, but we did a good job just filling in the gaps,” Enright added. “The D-line was awesome.”
Just as they did last week, Menlo jumped out of the gates again with Beltran firing off five consecutive passes to Jung, Ben Banatao, and Jack Giesler before finishing the seven-play, 65-yard drive with a scoring pass to Enright. Menlo forced a fumble on TKA’s second play of the game. Halsey recovered and three plays later, found Jung for a 13-yard scoring strike.
