Volleyball wraps up 3-2 record in Huntington Beach

Simone Adam, a senior, posted a team-high 14 kills and four blocks in three sets against St. Francis

9.11.2021 – The Menlo School volleyball team won its pool and finished 3-2 in its debut in the Dave Mohs Tournament in Huntington Beach on Saturday.
The Knights (10-5) defeated Temecula, Tesoro of Santa Margarita and Santa Margarita on Friday before falling in three sets each to Newport Harbor and eventual champion Lakeport on Saturday.

Knights senior Simone Adam finished with 57 kills for the tournament while junior Brooke Dombkowski had 41. Senior setter Hanna Hoffman had 80 assists in the five matches.

On Day 2 in Gold Bracket play, Menlo fell to Lakewood 25-12, 24-26, 15-10 in the early match. Hoffman finished with a team-high eight kills and nine assists, and fellow senior setter Zoe Gregory delivered 10 assists and five digs. Dombkowski added eight kills and nine digs and senior Alli McKenney added eight digs. Against Newport Harbor, Menlo lost 22-25, 25-20, 15-10. Adam posted nine kills and six digs while sophomore Cleo Hardin added seven. Gregory and Hoffman each had 12 assists and seven digs.

9.10.2021 –The Menlo School volleyball team went 3-0 to power through Friday’s pool play of the Dave Mohs Invitational in Huntington Beach.
The Knights (10-3) will play Lakewood at 8:00 am Saturday, Sept. 11.
Menlo started with a 25-22, 25-20 win over Temecula Valley behind senior outside hitter Simone Adam’s 15 kills and six digs. Hanna Hoffman posted 25 assists, six digs and three aces. Fellow senior Alli McKenney posted eight digs.
The Knights picked up a 25-17, 25-22 win over Tesoro of Santa Margarita. Adam had a team-high 17 kills, and four aces. Hoffman delivered 26 assists while senior Hallie MacDonald had three aces and 11 digs. Junior outside hitter Brooke Dombkowski picked up 12 digs.
In a three-set match, Menlo outlasted top seed Santa Margarita 23-25, 25-17, 15-11. Dombkowski had 12 kills, 11 digs and two aces. Adam posted 13 kills while sophomore Cleo Hardin and Hoffman each had three blocks.

 

St. Francis 3, Menlo 0

The Menlo School volleyball team fell to a persistent St. Francis squad who came from behind in each set to win 27-25, 25-23, 25-23 Tuesday in a non-league matchup in Atherton.
The Knights (7-2) will meet another West Catholic League foe in Mitty on Thursday before heading to Huntington Beach for the Dave Mohs Tournament, hosted by Edison High.
Menlo senior Simone Adam delivered a team-high 14 kills and four blocks. Senior Sharon Nejad and junior Emma Donley combined for 11 kills. Seniors Hanna Hoffman had 18 assists and Zoe Gregory added 16. Senior Alli McKenney and junior Brooke Dombkowski had 10 and eight digs, respectively.
Menlo took a 22-16 advantage and held match point at 24-20 in Set 1 before St. Francis came roaring back.
