Football tops Terra Nova

9.18.2021 – In a game with a much different tempo than Menlo’s previous three, the result was similarly successful.
Menlo defeated Terra Nova 15-6 in a Peninsula Athletic League interdivison matchup at home Saturday. The Knights improve to 4-0 and have a bye week before a PAL-Ocean Division matchup against Jefferson. The Tigers (3-1) are the second PAL-Bay Division team the Knights have defeated (they beat The King’s Academy 49-12 in Week 2).
The Knights took over the lead when senior quarterback Sergio Beltran marched the Knights upfield 90 yards with three of his 24 carries for 159 yards for the day. He delivered passes to Cort Halsey, Ben Banatao and Cort Halsey before finding junior Robby Enright for a 13-yard score with 4:18 left in the half.
The Knights’ defense followed suit with consecutive sacks by junior Avery Romain and Ralston Raphael pushed the Tigers to their own 2. An intentional grounding call gave Menlo a safety and a 9-6 lead.
At the end of the third, Menlo’s Cort Halsey made a tackle and senior Tyler Flynn dove to make the interception.

Beltran made another big rushing gain to start the fourth before finding junior Ty Richardson for an 11-yard TD pass with 11:56 to go in the 12th.
Beltran added another passing touchdown - he now has 19,  and closed his latest win, with 159 yards in 24 carries.
Coming into the game, Menlo had outscored its opponents 168-24, and dating back to the abbreviated spring 2021 season, the Knights had scored first in each of its games. This time however, the Tigers struck first when Dominic Gordon scored on a 23-yard keeper for a 6-0 lead with 5:54 left in the first quarter.
