More than 400 community members registered for the in-person 5k event starting and ending on Menlo’s campus. Students, staff, parents, siblings, alumni, furry friends, infants in strollers, and even a unicyclist took part, with many choosing to get festive by running through clouds of cheerful technicolor powder unleashed by student volunteers.

Tucker Gold ’22 opened the event with the singing of the National Anthem, while Kami Israelski and Hannah Hoffman (both ’22) led the crowd in some fun stretches. The first racer under the balloon arch was Henry Hauser ’27, with a brisk pace of 6:26 minutes per mile. Participants enjoyed a socially distanced post-race event on the Loop with prizes and snacks.

“We were amazed at the continued resiliency of the Menlo community, who adhered to race protocols, social distancing and masking, and allowed for a super fun event—a great return to annual tradition!” say parent organizers Heidi Abrams and Christina Tudor.

All proceeds from the race will go towards supporting Peninsula Bridge, an organization “dedicated to empowering motivated, low-income students to achieve college and career success through individualized support and transformational educational opportunities.”
