Boys’ water polo takes 8th at Irvine tournament

Knights open with win over Los Osos
Ethan Babel tallied a team-high six assists and six steals for Menlo on Day 2 of the S&R Cup in Irvine.

 

10.2.2021 – The Menlo School boys’ water polo took eighth in the prestigious 16-team S&R Sport Cup in Irvine this weekend. 

The Knights defeated Los Osos 18-11 before falling to Southern California powers Los Alamitos 18-9, Long Beach Wilson 13-8 and Corona del Mar  11-10.  

On Saturday, junior Ethan Babel led Menlo in assists for both games with six and also had a team-high six steals.  Senior Jack Murad led the team with five blocked shots and scored five of his nine goals on Saturday.

Cormac Mulloy finished with 22 saves and Finn Byrne with 19 after the four games. Tommy Kiesling posted 14 goals and Greg Hilderbrand had 11.

Menlo (8-7) resumes WCAL play against St. Francis Wednesday.
