Strong finishes for cross country at first WBAL meet
The Menlo boys’ cross country team took second and the girls took third in the first WBAL meet of the season Wednesday at the Crystal Springs course in Belmont.
Junior Justin Pretre sailed to victory, three seconds ahead of his closest competitor, finishing the 2.96-mile course in 15:46 to guide the Knights to second, six points behind winner Crystal Springs. Four Knights finished top 10 with brother Landon Pretre, a freshman, was fourth in 16:01.4, senior Nik Khuntia seventh in 16:49 and sophomore Alex Boesch in ninth in 16:49 among 45 runners. Menlo’s Will Hauser finished in 17:36.3 and Nishan Rajavasireddy in 19:30.1.
In the varsity girls’ race, senior Grace Tang was the Knights’ top finisher in 20:43.9 while fellow senior Pia Gallo was nearby to capture 12th in 2:51.1. Freshman Eden Chuang was third for Menlo and 19 overall in 21:11 Junior Alea Marks finished in the course in 21:30.6 and Audrey Tsao in 22:14.20.
