Boys’ soccer tops Palo Alto

Knights score winner in last  minutes
Knights senior Jonah Blaydes-Greenberg scored the winning goal in Menlo's 2-1 win over Palo Alto on Friday.

12.3.2021 –The Menlo boys’ soccer team defeated Palo Alto on the road in a gritty 2-1 victory on the road Friday.
The Knights (1-1) worked past a defensive mix-up early after Paly took the lead in the opening minutes. From there, Menlo controlled possession and worked their way back into the game. The Knights equalized a few minutes before halftime off a corner when junior Aidan Skinner won a towering header that sophomore Andre Gonzalez redirected into the back of the net.
Menlo carried the momentum into the second half and pressured the Vikings’ goalie but couldn’t find the breakthrough. With just a few minutes to play senior forward Amari Makasini found some space in the box and hit a stinging low effort that the Vikings could only parry into the path of senior captain Daniel Louie, who helped it on to senior Jonah Blaydes-Greenberg who coolly finished into the side netting for the winning goal.
Senior Alex Chen, Emilio Velten and Colin Thomas were stalwarts at the back and in goal to help lead Menlo to victory. The Knights take to the road again Wednesday to face Sequoia HS
