The Menlo boys’ basketball team rebounded from a pair of losses in the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic with a commanding 66-48 victory over St. Joseph’s of San Diego on Thursday.
Eleven scored for the Knights (6-3), who got 19 points, four rebounds and four steals from junior Lucas Vogel. Will Eggemeier scored 11 points. Robby Enright, also a junior, pulled down four rebounds and had four points. Daniel Solomon, a senior, posted six assists.

12.29.2021 – The Menlo School boys’ basketball lost a third-round matchup against Patrick Henry of San Diego 77-45 in the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic on Wednesday at Carlsbad High School.
The Knights (5-3) will play St. Joseph’s at 11:05 am on Thursday,
Patrick Henry (9-8) jumped out to a 23-15 first-quarter advantage.
Menlo junior Lucas Vogel had 14 points and senior Daniel Solomon added 13. Cort Halsey and Robby Enright, both juniors, grabbed seven rebounds.

12.28,2021 – The Menlo boys’ basketball team dropped a 58-50 decision to Santa Fe Christian in the second round of the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic on Tuesday.
The Knights trailed 33-17 at halftime, but once again, soared in the fourth quarter with Daniel Solomon scoring 15 of his game-high 24 points in the fourth. But the Eagles (7-5) of Solana Beach held on to advance to the Senator Division semifinals. Menlo (5-2) will play Patrick Henry at 5:25 pm on Wednesday.
Will Eggemeier finished with 12 points and seven rebounds for the Knights.

12.27.2021 – Post-holiday crowds, weather and staffing shortages turned a quick flight to San Diego into a daylong trip, but it was well worth the wait for the Menlo boys’ basketball team Monday.

In an opener of the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic, Menlo used a fourth-quarter charge to defeat Artesia 61-53 at Carlsbad High School. On Tuesday night at 8:35 pm, the Knights face Santa Fe Christian, a 64-47 winner over San Diego. 

Menlo junior Lucas Vogel finished with a game-high 23 points, and added five rebounds and three steals. Fellow junior Robby Enright added 12 points and senior Daniel Solomon posted 10 points, four assists and four steals for the Knights (5-1).

Menlo trailed by 10 in the third quarter, and cut the lead to 43-37 entering the fourth. Enright sank two of his four three-pointers in the fourth - the Knights recorded 13 three-pointers for the night. Vogel scored 10 points in the fourth and sank six free throws; he was 8 for 8 for the game.
“Even though we were behind going into the fourth, we cut the lead to six and that was big; we felt we had momentum. Everyone stepped up: Robby Enright, Will Eggemeier, Ryan Schaefer - really everybody was getting involved and helping. Between the third and fourth quarters, it was right in our grasp, and that we could do this.”
Just a day before in Lakewood, Artesia (11-3) retired the number of alum NBA star James Harden of the Brooklyn Nets. Menlo knew it had to try to cool the momentum of one of the top-ranked 4AA teams in Southern California.
“They came out firing,” Vogel said. “I don’t think they missed a shot in the first quarter.”
Still, Menlo led 27-25 at halftime before Artesia went on an 18-10 run to take back the lead. In the first half, Schaefer led the Knights with eight points and three steals, and Enright had a couple of threes.
