Boys’ soccer wins with second-half goals

Menlo sophomore Alex Boesch scored on a header with 18 minutes left.

1.28.2022 – The Menlo boys’ soccer rolled to a 5-1 victory, handing visiting Harker its first league loss in a match Friday.
The Knights and Eagles hold 4-1-0 West Bay Athletic League records.
Menlo got on the scoreboard first when sophomore Alessandro Velazquez scored the first of his three goals midway through the first half. Senior Jonah Blaydes-Greenberg scored coming out of the second half with 35:44 left.
Velazquez scored his second, netting a shot off a defender with 27 minutes left for a 3-0 lead. He scored his third off an assist from senior Amari Makasini midway through the second half. Twenty seconds later, senior Daniel Louie gave the Knights a 5-0 lead, scoring on a feed from sophomore Andre Gonzalez Lombera. Harker scored with 6:44 left


The JV game was cancelled.

Menlo 2, Crystal Springs 1

1.26.2022 – The Menlo boys’ soccer team scored twice in the second half in a 2-1 victory over visiting Crystal Springs in a WBAL match Wednesday.
Menlo (5-3-2 overall, 3-1 league) next plays Harker at home Friday.
The Gryphons scored first coming out of a 0-0 halftime. Menlo sophomore Alex Boesch scored the equalizer with a header on senior Amari Makasini’s assist with 15:10 left. Seven minutes later, senior Jonah Blaydes-Greenberg scored the winner off a goalie deflection.
