Boys’ soccer powers past SHP, goes 3-0 for week

2.4.2022 – In a duel between league leaders, the Menlo boys’ soccer team charged out of the gates, and held off late threats at the end of the game for a 3-0 victory over Sacred Heart Prep at home Friday.
Menlo has won seven consecutive and holds a 7-1-0 record, and Sacred Heart Prep is 7-2-0 while Harker was 5-1-0 going into Friday’s game against TKA.

Menlo coach Marc Kerrest said. “Clearly Alessandro (Velazquez) has been a huge presence for us all year and came through huge again today with two great goals but up and down the lineup, to a man, the boys really performed well.”
Four minutes in, sophomore Alessandro Velazquez delivered a goal. Midway through the half, Daniel Louie scored from the right side on a feed from fellow senior Emilio Velten-Lomelin.
Velazquez would add another on an assist from sophomore Jacob Lee.
Colin Thomas, a senior. and the Knights defense held off a late charge by the Gators with three saves in the final minutes.

Academy in a WBAL game Wednesday. Sophomores Alessandro Velazquez scored twice and Andre Gonzales Lombera posted a goal, assist. Daniel Louie added a goal, and Julian Sheehan, Aidan Skinner and Amari Makasini posted assists. Colin Thomas got the shutout win for Menlo, which has won its sixth consecutive, and moves to 6-1-0 in league.

 

Menlo 9, The King’s Academy 0

1.31.2022 – The Menlo boys’ soccer team improved to 5-1 in WBAL play after a 9-0 win over The King’s Academy 9-0 at home Monday.
Menlo (7-3-2) got a hat trick from Andre Gonzales Lombera and fellow sophomore Alessandro Velasquez posted two goals and two assists. Cisco Argueta, a senior, scored a goal and added two assists while sophomore Jacob Lee delivered three assists.
Alexander Chan, a senior defender, scored and added an assist. Senior Daniel Louie and sophomore Alex Boesch also scored for Menlo. Senior Colin Thomas got the shutout win.
Menlo next plays at The King’s Academy to wrap up the home-away series Wednesday before a rematch with SHP at home Friday.
