The West Bay Athletic League champion Menlo boys’ soccer team closed out its season in the CCS Div, II quarterfinals in a 2-0 loss to a powerful Menlo-Atherton team at home Saturday.

The Knights finished with a 12-4-3 overall record and went 10-1-1 to repeat as league champions. This after losing more than half of its starting lineup - all seniors in 2020-21.
“For the team to lose eight starters, have six sophomores on varsity and come together and consistently improve throughout the season is a huge testament to the work the players put in all year. Back to back league champions - the boys should be proud,” Menlo coach Marc Kerrest said.
The Knights fell behind when the Bears (7-6-4) scored in the 30th minute. The Knights took several shots and threatened to post an equalizer, but the Bears found the net again with seven minutes left.
“Today, we came up short against an extremely talented and well-coached M-A team which gave us real trouble in the first half,” “We adjusted well at halftime and posed a real threat in the second half but just couldn’t find the equalizer. Their late goal put the game out of reach. We can be disappointed we didn’t compete better in the first half, but I’m proud of the way the team responded.
“I can see this M-A team doing more damage, and we wish the best of luck to them.”
