CCS: Girls’ soccer wraps up season in semis

No. 6 seed Knights fall in OT after knocking out No. 2  Live Oak

The Menlo girls’ soccer team suffered a heart-breaker of a loss to host Christopher in Giloy on Wednesday night.
Menlo took charge after the first several minutes and would deliver three scoring chances in the waning minutes of the first half. Knotted with the No. 3 seeded Crusaders 0-0 at halftime, the No, 7 Knights struck first. Freshman Roya Rezaee,who would later fill in admirably in goal after an injury, slotted a through ball from junior Colby Wilson midway through the second half. Christopher applied pressure, and junior Kayia Stewart would post the equalizer with less than five minutes left in the game. Christopher would get the winner in the last minutes of the second period of overtime.
The Knights wrap up the season with an 11-6-4 record.  

 

Menlo 6, Live Oak 0

Menlo girls’ soccer team charged into the CCS Div, II Soccer Quarterfinals with a 6-0 victory to top Live Oak on the road Saturdsy,
The No, 6 seeded Knights (11-5-4) knocked off the No. 2 seeded Acorns with a dominating performance.
Menlo junior Sasha Bernthal scored her first of two goals on an assist from junior Ellie El-Fishawy just 1:28 minutes into the game. Sophomore Lila Gold scored to give the Knights a 2-0 lead before junior Hannah Gorospe added another in the 26th minute. Roya Rezaee gave Menlo a 4-0 lead and fellow freshman Audrey Hochstetler took a feed from junior Colby Wilson for a 5-0 halftime advantage. Bernthal added a goal in the waning minutes, and Menlo advanced to the semifinals.
Menlo will take on No. 3 Christopher (10-5-1) at 4:30 pm Wednesday, Feb. 23, in Gilroy.
