Cross country opens season in record-breaking style

Pretre brothers topple Lowell Invitational records

9.10.2022 – Picking up right where it left off after taking a program record seventh place at the state meet, the Menlo cross country team kicked off the season with another remarkable finish and set some records along the way.

At the Lowell Invitational, senior Justin Pretre won gold in 13:20 on the 2.78-mile course.1 and sophomore brother Landon Pretre silver in 13:23.0 - both record-breaking runs. They had the best times across both varsity boys’ races totaling 426 runners. And, they beat the previous record believed to have been set by Bellarmine’s Colin Peattie of Bellarmine of 13:52.5 on a 2.80-mile course in 2019. The Knights finished in sixth place despite missing two of their runners.
In the girls’ race, freshman Ariya Kauseck paved the way for the girls, coming in with a time of 16:57.4
Ryan Li ​was the​ Knights​’ ​​first across the finish line in JV boys’ race​ while ​JV girls take 11th with Ruiqi Liu leads the way​. The freshman boys take seventh in a field of 18. James Yue is top finisher for Knights in fourth place.
