Runners take Irvine by storm

Boys finish 14th in elite Sweeps Division; Girls 6th in Varsity Gold

9.16.2022 – Taking Woodbridge Invitational by storm, the Knights cross country teams return home after two top10 individuals, and two powerful team finishes in Irvine Friday.
In a runners version of Friday Night Lights, the Menlo girls placed sixth in the Varsity Gold A Division and the boys’ team was 14th in the invitation-only Sweeps Division.
In the boys’ Sweeps race, sophomore Landon Pretre finished 10th in 14:06.7 on the 3-mile course and senior Justin Pretre was 34th in 14:32.2 in a field of 229 runners. Senior Aiden Deffner was Menlo’s third finisher in 15:28.16. Will Hauser, a sophomore, came in in 15:28.2, Alex Boesch, a junior, in 16:25.6 and freshman James Yue in 17:09.4.
Freshman Ariya Kaushek sailed to fourth in the Varsity Girls Gold race in 18:06.2 among 171 runners. Devon Tussing-Adkinson, also a freshman, was 24th in 18:44.8. Sophomores Taylor Tam was 41st in 19:12.9 and Eden Chuang finished in 19:16.3. Sophomore Audrey Tsao crossed the finish in 20:33.1 and freshman Anya Ramani in 21:53.3.
Menlo next competes in the Westmoor Invitational on Saturday.
