Middle School French and Mixed Media Art Classes Discover Masterworks at the Legion of Honor

Students explored the museum through a scavenger hunt activity and browsed works by Rodin and French Impressionists

The Middle School French and Mixed Media Art classes joined forces for an engaging field trip to the Legion of Honor Fine Arts Museum in San Francisco. The trip’s primary focus was to explore French artwork by Rodin and impressionist painters. Students participated in a scavenger hunt to interact with the Guo Pei: Couture Fantasy exhibition and played a code game that involved finding clues throughout the museum to unlock a box with prizes. Mixed media students were also encouraged to sketch some of their favorite works on display.

“Our main goal was for the students to gain a better understanding of French artists,” said visual arts teacher Sean Hyland. “It was also an opportunity to take a break from computer screens and experience master works of art in person.”

“For my eighth graders,” added French teacher Valerie Amzallag, “it was their first French field trip in three years, so they were very excited about it. We also celebrated a student’s birthday with some eclairs her parents brought for the whole group. The entire day was fun for everyone!”
