Boys basketball wraps up NY trip with win, finishes 2-2

Knights fall to Xavier and national power Christ the King, defeat Packer Collegiate and Collegiate
Menlo boys' basketball lands in New York.

The Menlo boys’ basketball team wrapped up a memorable, four-game New York tour with a victory defeating Collegiate of Manhattan, Coach Ben Batory’s alma mater and went 2-2.

The Knights picked up a 69-57 victory over Collegiate School in Brooklyn on Friday. Menlo (5-7) jumped out of the blocks against Collegiate, where Menlo’s Ben Batory coached from 2000-2008, and led 28-19 at the half. 

Menlo senior Lucas Vogel led all scorers with 29 points on 12-0f-19 shooting. He also had five assists, four steals and four rebounds. Brooks Mead, also a senior, added six points and dished out four assists. Tate Cohen and Will Eggemeier each scored eight and Sam Reznik scored five and made three steals.

12.29,.2022 – Menlo boys basketball lost to Xavier of Manhattan after a sluggish first half.

The Knights came back with a 31-19 second half, but could not overcome a slow start. Junior Sam Reznik and Lucas Vogel each contributed 11 points for the Knights, who play Collegiate on Friday.   

 

Menlo 65, Packer Collegiate 59

The Menlo boys’ basketball team prevailed over Packer Collegiate 65-59 in a tightly contested game throughout Wednesday in Brooklyn.
The Knights (4-6) handed the Pelicans (4-1) their first loss after coming back from a 20-11 first-quarter deficit to a 35-31 halftime lead.
Menlo’s Lucas Vogel finished with 28 points on 12-of-25 shooting, and four rebounds. Tate Cohen added 11 points and three steals and senior Will Eggemeier pitched in with 10 points.
The Knights next play Xavier at 9:00 am on Thursday.

Christ the King-Queens 70, Menlo 43

12.28.2022 – The Menlo School boys’ basketball team embarked on its four-game New York tour, opening with a 70-43 loss Tuesday to national power Christ the King in Queens.
The Knights (3-6) got off to a slow start, and the Royals (4-2) used a balanced attack to keep a distance.
Menlo senior Lucas Vogel had a game-high 17 points while junior Sam Reznik added 10. Sophomore Tate Cohen pulled down six rebounds and senior Robby Enright added four.
Led by Bryce Merchant with nine - all on three pointers - fourteen scored for Christ the King, which came into the game ranked No. 21 in ESPN’s top 25.

“Well, we now know how Angola felt taking on the Dream Team in 1992! But while the Dream Team won Gold, the real winners from ’92 Olympics basketball was the Rest of the World, who got to see where they stood against the best of the best, and have steadily improved year after year, closing the gap against the USA,” Coach Ben Batory said. “That’s our hope as well! It was a great experience to play against such incredible talent - team full of Division 1 signees - and we hope it will serve us well over the next few games and into the league season.

“Score aside, we played hard from start to finish, and we always value ‘playing the right way’ as our true measuring stick. In that sense, we walk away proud of our result.”

Menlo will play Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn at 10:00 am Wednesday,
