Fantastic finish: Boys’ basketball tops Carlmont in OT

1.6.2023 – The Menlo boys’ basketball team returned to the Bay Area, and used a big second-half comeback to defeat a tough Carlmont team 67-59 in overtime on the road Saturday.

Menlo (6-7) fell into a 16-0 deficit to start the game, then pulls to within 10 at the half. 

Tate Cohen sank a baseline jumper to end the third quarter with Carlmont up 41-35. Cohen scored eight of his 18 points as the Knights chipped away at the lead. Midway through the fourth, Lucas Vogel drew a hard foul, and sank both free throws and Menlo trailed 44-43. Will Eggemeier sanks three from the top of the key with 18.1 seconds left and the Knights took a 58-55 advantage. The Scots came back with a three-pointer of their own and the game went to overtime after Menlo’s 23-17 fourth-quarter run.

Cohen and Vogel gave Menlo a quick five-point lead entering the extra period with some dogged defense. Robby Enright picked off a Scots’ pass and Vogel added a putback for the 67-59 lead. Menlo held Carlmont to a single point in OT, during which the Scots struggled at the line, finishing 1 for 6.  

Vogel, a senior, finished with 22 points, four rebounds and four steals. Sophomore Tate Cohen posted 18 points (5 threes). Seniors Brooks Mead  added 11 points, three rebounds, and four steals while Robby Enright had six points and three rebounds.

The Knights will host The King’s Academy in Tuesday’s WBAL opener!
