1.8.2023 – Menlo senior Lucas Vogel has reached 1,000 career points in roughly three seasons, joining 11 others in the Knights’ boys’ program. Vogel hit point No. 1,000 during a win at Collegiate in Manhattan, the final stop on the Knights’ New York tour on Dec. 30. The Knights will recognize Vogel at tonight’s first home game.
Through three seasons so far, counting a half season during the pandemic-shortened 2020-21 season, Vogel now has 1,039 points entering today’s game against The King’s Academy. He now joins 11 others in the Menlo boys’ basketball 1,000-point club, including Cole Kastner with whom he played on the 2019-2020 team.
“It’s been a goal of mine since freshman year, I think it wrote it down in a journal, and then seeing Cole Kastner reach it,” said Vogel, who scored 508 points last season in helping his team to a CCS Div. IV Championship.
Vogel, who is set to study and play for Washington-St. Louis next year was quick to say he was in the ideal environment to reach the milestone and help his teams under former coach Keith Larsen and current coach Ben Batory.
“I feel like I’ve been in the perfect situation here at Menlo for this to happen - everyone from coaches Larsen and Batory, my teammates, (assistant) Matt Pierson, the weight room staff and trainers - the work they put in day in and day out to put us in the best situation to play - I give all credit to the situation I have here.”
