Boys’ soccer off to quick start in WBAL play

Menlo senior Aidan Skinner scored in Menlo's 2-1 victory over TKA

1.13.23 –The Menlo boys’ soccer team held off host The King’s Academy 3-2 in Friday night to improve to 3-0 in WBAL play.
The Knights (4-3-1 overall) got a goal from Andre Gonzalez Lombera in the 75th minute after he followed up on a deflection after Julian Sheehan fired a shot. Menlo next plays at Sacred Heart Prep on Wednesday,
King’s got on the board first before Menlo corner is deflected by a defender and slots into the net for an own goal and a 1-1 halftime tie.
Menlo senior Aidan Skinner netted a goal on a free kick by Alessandro Velazquez for a 2-1 advantage. TKA countered to knot the score at 2.

 

Menlo 3, Harker 0

1.11.23 – In a West Bay Athletic League match-up at home, Menlo boys’ soccer shut down Harker 3-0 on Tuesday.
The Knights (3-3-2 overall, 2-0 league) broke the scoreless tie when senior Edwin Alvarez scored off a rebound in the 34th minute for a 1-0 halftime lead. Menlo came out of the half firing, peeling off four shots. Menlo would double their lead in the 56th minute when jAndre Gonzalez Lombera timed a perfect pass back to Alessandro Velazquez approaching from the center. With less than three minutes left, freshman Declan Sitter scored on a feed from Velazquez.
Knights junior Ben Bishop preserved the clean sheet.
Menlo next plays at The King’s Academy on Sunnyvale on Friday

Menlo 3, Crystal 2

1.9.2023 – Menlo jumped out to a two-goal lead then held off Crystal 3-2 to wins its WBAL opener on the road Monday.

Knights junior Andre Gonzales Lombera scored on Yasin Abdulkariem’s assist for the winner. Gonzales Lombera finished with a pair of goals and fellow junior Alessando Velazquez had a goal and an assist.
