Boys’ soccer ties SHP in Valpo Clásico

Knights shut out Eastside

2.9.2023 – Menlo boys’ soccer shut out Eastside 10-0 in WBAL play Friday.

With the win, the Knights hold a 9-1-2 record and secured the second automatic CCS qualifying bid.

Andre Gonzalez Lombera scored twice and had an assist. Alessandro Velazquez had a goal and assisted on two more. Eric Schmidtke posted a hat trick and Edwin Alvarez had two assists. Julian Sheehan netted a goal and an assist. Stevie Halprin, Declan Sitter and Chuck Wynn added goals and Jacob Lee also had an assist.

 

Menlo 1, Sacred Heart Prep 1

2.7.2023 - In the inaugural Valpo Clásico rivalry game, the Menlo boys’ soccer team finished in a 1-1 stalemate with Sacred Heart Prep at home Wednesday,

Menlo kept a hold of second place and moved to 8-1-2 with three games remaining. 

Two Knights players in their first games back after missing several due to injuries contributed to the second-half goal. Junior Andre Gonzalez Lombera scored on a goalie deflection of a rocket shot by Julian Sheehan with 33 minutes left.

The Knights’ Ben Bishop stopped a trio of shots and Menlo still held the advantage with 20 minutes left. 

Then, Sacred Heart Prep would get the equalizer with 19 minutes left, and both teams held from there.
