Girls’ soccer closes historic season in CCS Open

2.18,2023 - The Menlo girls’ soccer team wrapped up a remarkable season after falling 3-1 to a powerful Mountain View team in the CCS Open quarterfinals Saturday night.
The Spartans scored on a free kick 10 minutes in then added another goal right before halftime. Mountain View added another goal midway through the second half but not before freshman Bianca Putanec made a stellar save of a penalty kick. The Knights weren’t backing down even in the waning minutes when senior Abby Becker delivered a goal.
Menlo finished with ​a ​15-2-4 overall record​ and​ ​went 8-0-2 to win the ​W​est ​B​ay ​A​thletic ​L​eague​ Championship​. The Knights are also the ​first ​in program history to secure a ​CCS Open Division bert​h and r​eportedly, first ​team from a ​B ​league (of which WBAL is a part) ​to secure an Open bidThe Knights bid farewell to its senior corps of Helen Barkley, Abby Becker, Sasha Bernthal, Tabitha Corcoran, Ellie El-Fishawy, Hannah Gorospe, Ellie Gruber, Finley Riley, Sam Sellers, and Colby Wilson.
