Baseball rallies to top Hillsdale 5-4 in eighth, splits series

The Menlo baseball team split a PAL-Ocean season series after handing Hillsdale its first league loss Tuesday, then falling 13-8 at home Thursday.
The Knights (3-5, 11-7 overall) went ahead 6-5 in the second before Hillsdale charged ahead with a five-run fourth.
The Knights’ Jake Bianchi went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI. Carson Cleage and Garrett Tran each drove in two runs.
Menlo next plays The King’s Academy at home Friday.

4.18.2023 – The Menlo baseball team picked up another come-from-behind victory to top host Hillsdale 5-4 in eight innings Tuesday.
Menlo improved to 11-6 overall and 3-4 PAL-Ocean. The teams meet again Thursday at home.
With two out in the sixth inning, Colin Dhaliwal singled then scored on Jake Bianchi’s hit and Menlo pulled to a 4-4 tie with Hillsdale. Then, Trey McNair led off the eighth with a single. Jack Freehill and Colin Dhaliwal singled to load bases. Menlo got the go-ahead run when McNair scored on a fielder’s choice.Colin Dhaliwal, a senior, went 3 for 4 with an RBI as Menlo collected 13 hits. Jake Sonsini, Jake Bianchi each had two hits and two RBI while Jacob Lee added two more hits.
Sonsini picked up the win in relief, allowing one hit, no runs, walking three and striking out two.
Menlo took a 3-2 lead in the second inning. Jason Lee, who singled, scored on Colin Dhaliwal’s base hit. Jake Sonsini and Jake Bianchi had RBI singles.
