All trials competitors headed to CCS track & field finals

Six athletes in seven events at CCS Finals

All six of Menlo School’s CCS track and field qualifiers who competed in trials Saturday, qualified for seven events in the finals scheduled for next Saturday back at Gilroy High.
On a typically warm day in May in Gilroy, with temperatures nearing 90 degrees, the Knights were well represented among the events.

  • Knights senior Justin Pretre, who is set to run at Cal next year, won his heat in the boys’ 800 in 1:56.64 and started the day with a 1600 CCS qualification in 4:15.71. He also will anchor the 4x800 relay, which goes straight to the final from league championships, with Aiden Deffner, Will Hauser and brother Landon Pretre.
  • Summer Young, a junior, reached a PR in the girls’ high jump, clearing 5 feet, 2 inches. Ten others hit 5-2 and two who cleared 5-0 qualified.
  • Landon Pretre, a sophomore, won the 3200 in 9:19.46.
  • William Floyd, a senior headed to University of Chicago, cleared 13-6 also coming in first easily meeting the cut-off height of 13-6.
  • Sophomore Will Hauser started the day with a standout race in the 1600 in 4:14.98, two seconds off his PR.
    Menlo School had 12 CCS qualifiers in nine events this season.
