The Menlo School flag football team kept its undefeated streak alive at 10 games this season after fighting off a tough St. Francis team 24-19 on Monday at SHP.
The Knights, who have a 25-game win streak dating back to last season, used four second-half touchdowns to beat the Lancers. Knights sophomore quarterback/defensive back Ava Allen threw four touchdowns to three receivers.
Menlo took the lead for the first time when Maren Mulloy hauled in an Ava Allen pass for a TD with five minutes left in the game. The Knights defense, with Ari Kaufman and Alyssa McAdams making tackles near the line of scrimmage thwarted St. Francis on fourth down. Allen and Mulloy connected again for a TD and Menlo led 24-13 before the Lancers added a touchdown with minutes left.
After St. Francis scored on its first possession, Ellie Knoll sparked a rally with an interception, then fellow senior Scarlett Bundy scored on an Allen pass. Menlo trailed 13-6 at halftime. Coming out of the half, Knoll pulled in a pass from Allen to pull the Knights closer 13-12.
