Brave in the Attempt

That’s the motto of the Special Olympics, and every year Menlo students cheer on the brave San Mateo athletes.

Cheered on by their Menlo School buddies, over 100 athletes compete in track and field events for the Special Olympics Northern California, which Menlo has hosted for 23 years. Over 250 volunteers run the event and create an “athlete’s village” full of fun activities the athletes can do between their competitions. It’s one of our student’s favorite events. Says one, “Hanging out with my buddy, really getting to know her and cheering her on during her race was the greatest thing.”
