Financial Assistance

For those families receiving financial aid from Menlo School, Menlo will also help supply required technology.

FAQs about Financial Aid for Technology

Is aid available?

Yes. Families receiving financial aid from Menlo are eligible to rent (or in some cases, borrow) a laptop or receive assistance with the purchase of the iPad.

How much aid do I qualify for?

Upper School families receiving more than 50% tuition assistance may rent an up-to-date Mac laptop from the School for $350/yr.

Middle School families receiving financial assistance can get help buying an iPad according to the percentage of tuition award you receive. For example, if you qualify for 20% tuition assistance, you are eligible to receive assistance for 20% of the value of the iPad (see below for model information), the warranty and the case. Further examples may be seen below.

My child is in Middle School, and I qualify for financial aid. What do I need to purchase?

To qualify for financial aid, you must purchase:

  • An iPad (more information on which model to buy below)
  • The AppleCare+ extended (2 year) warranty ($99)
  • A protective case that covers the front and back of the iPad (approximately $25)

Please note that AppleCare+ extended warranty is only available directly from Apple.

How do I apply for and receive the aid?
You don’t have to apply to receive the aid. Buy a recommended model of iPad with the AppleCare+ extended warranty, get a case, and bring the receipts to the Financial Aid Office. Please see the examples below to understand what Financial Aid will cover.

If you need assistance with funding the purchase of the iPad, please contact the Financial Aid Office.

Which version of the iPad should I buy?
We recommend the following model of iPad: iPad (5th Generation), 128GB, WiFi-only, at a cost of $499. In addition, you need to buy the $99 AppleCare+ extended warranty and a protective case for approximately $25.

Your student may bring any model iPad from version Air 2 and above. Older iPads are not acceptable. However, we will not provide aid for costs above the recommended model.

What if I want a different model?
You may buy any current model, but your award will be based on the value of our recommended model. Note that in order to qualify, you must also buy the AppleCare+ extended warranty and a case.

Why do I have to buy a warranty and a case?
iPads are fragile. We want to make sure that you are protected in case of damage to the iPad.

  • The AppleCare+ warranty extends coverage to two years and protects you against two incidents of accidental damage. If the iPad is damaged, Apple will charge $49 per incident. See the Apple Store or visit http://store.apple.com/us/product/S4689LL/A for details.
  • A protective case will greatly reduce damage to the iPad.

I have more questions. Whom should I talk to?
For questions about the iPad program in general, please contact Eric Spross, Director of Technology, at eric.spross@menloschool.org. For questions about Financial Aid, please contact Beth Bishop at beth.bishop@menloschool.org.
