Frequently Asked Questions About the Menlo Centennial Campaign
Why is Menlo conducting a campaign at this time? What are the goals?
In roughly the past 25 years, Menlo has steadily added new buildings and improvements to campus. The Menlo Centennial Campaign will complete the center of campus by funding the Spieker Center for Performing Arts, which follows the recent completion of the new Dining Commons, renovations to the library, and multiple renovations to athletic facilities, including the baseball field, tennis courts, track, and Gates Pool. Furthermore, we’re taking the opportunity to bolster the School’s long-term financial stability and strengthen our endowment. Menlo is doing exceptionally well in many ways, but we risk falling behind our peer schools and being unable to fulfill our mission if we don’t ensure we have the financial base to develop innovative educational experiences; recruit, retain, and develop exceptional faculty; and ensure accessibility and affordability for all deserving students.
What’s the best way to support the campaign?
We welcome gifts of any amount that are comfortable for your family. Every gift makes a difference, and we hope that every member of the Menlo community will join us to help fund this important initiative. Menlo has a variety of priorities in the campaign, so unrestricted gifts will allow us to direct resources to where they are most needed. Just as important, we encourage you to continue to support the Annual Fund and Auction as you have in the past. You can give online, or contact the Development Office for more information.
If I choose to make a gift to the campaign, do I have to give a one-time payment, or can I pledge to make gifts in installments?
You can give to the campaign in whatever way is best for your family. If your family is able, five-year pledges are especially helpful because they allow you to spread out your donation while also ensuring Menlo has predictable and stable revenue for the longer term. Do other independent schools conduct campaigns like this?
Yes. These types of campaigns are common among schools that rely on tuition and charitable gifts to operate. Among nearby peer schools, Lick-Wilmerding, Nueva School, Harker School, Castilleja, Sacred Heart Prep, and others are conducting or have recently completed major campaigns.
Are campaign gifts tax-deductible?
Yes. Menlo is designated by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization and contributions are tax deductible in accordance with federal law. You will be provided with a gift acknowledgment for tax reporting purposes.
What about gift-matching?
Check our matching gifts page and with your employer’s human resources or personnel department to see if there is a matching gifts program. This could effectively double or triple your investment.
