Internship Program

Menlo Internship Program

The Menlo Internship Program is a selective internship program for motivated Menlo juniors (Class of 2025).

Intended to be in-depth, multi-week experiences during the summer of 2024, internships allow students to explore their passions, gain hands-on experience, and contribute meaningfully to sponsoring organizations.  Some opportunities will be available as early as May to coincide with MTerm.

Aspiring journalists, future scientists, or budding entrepreneurs can apply for internships in a range of fields such as Biological Science, Finance, Public Advocacy, Technology, the Creative Arts, and more.

Students will be asked to participate in workshops on resume writing, cover letter writing, and interview prep to prepare them for the internship application process. The Menlo Internship Program aims to match students with high-quality summer internships that foster the development of students’ skills and confidence.

Who can participate in the program?

During this first year of the program, only current Menlo Juniors (Class of ’25) are eligible to participate. We hope to expand the program to include other classes in future years.

If there are more interested students than available internships, participants will be selected based on factors including:

  • Availability of internships in the student’s desired areas of interest
  • Completion of all required program preparation including workshops on Resume Writing, Cover Letter Writing, and Job Interview Prep
  • Ability to dedicate multiple weeks to a full or part-time internship during the Summer of 2024
  • Maturity
  • Academic strength

What should interested students do next?

  1. View current internship offerings here.
  2. Fill out this form to let us know you are interested. (Please note this form is to register for summer internships that occur after the school year ends, and not for MTerm only internships.)
  3. After you’ve registered your interest, keep an eye out for an email from our program coordinators (internship@menloschool.org) about next steps. In January and February, we will hold workshops on Resume Writing, Cover Letter Writing, and Interview Preparation. Participation in these workshops will be mandatory for anyone looking to apply for internships through the Menlo Internship Program.
  4. Share this website with your family and discuss the internship program with them. An internship will require you to be available to work for a portion of your 2024 Summer.

Is your organization potentially interested in hiring a Menlo Intern?

Menlo School is actively recruiting organizations interested in hiring motivated Menlo student interns.

If your organization is willing to hire an intern or is interested in exploring the idea, please let us know by using this form. Our program organizers will follow up to answer any questions you may have and help you prepare an internship listing that will be visible to applicants in January.

Applicants for your internship will come from a pool of Menlo students who meet eligibility and preparation requirements. Menlo student interns want to contribute to your organization, learn, and engage deeply with your team. These students are looking for challenging and creative work and will arrive ready to dive into rigorous projects.

Organizations that list internships through the Menlo Internship Program should commit to reviewing all interested candidates and interviewing their top candidates. Organizations will not be required to hire an intern if they do not find a good fit among their applicants.

If you have any questions or would like to suggest a different organization that could be a candidate to sponsor an intern, please contact the Menlo Internship Team.

Are you a Menlo parent, alumni, or friend who can help?

While the internship program is school-sponsored, it is managed largely by volunteers from the Menlo community. We welcome your help in two main areas:

Recruiting Sponsoring Organizations

We need your help recruiting amazing organizations who can host a Menlo intern in the Summer of 2024 and/or future years. Please reach out to friends, colleagues, and connections and ask them directly to host an intern. Here are some resources to make it easy for you:

  1. An outreach email for you to copy and customize
  2. A link to the Menlo Internship webpage so you can easily share the program overview
  3. A link to the Indication of Interest Form they can use to get started

Preparing Students via the Internship Prep Program

We need parent volunteers to help our students prepare for the internship application and interview process. The student preparation committee will put together workshops on resume writing, cover letter writing, and interview preparation. Volunteers will be needed to run these workshops and work directly with the students. To supplement these workshops, we also need volunteers to help give feedback on students’ resumes and cover letters as well as help offer mock interviews.
